Recharge was founded in 2014 with a mission to empower merchants through recurring commerce and a strong philosophy that we succeed when our merchants succeed. Our commitment to our merchants and their success remains unchanged since our inception.
But how we at Recharge go about living out that commitment has been evolving.
In the early days, we developed a set of four core values to guide how we work together: Humility, Empathy, Ownership and Day One. We talk about them regularly, and even name a ‘Values Champion’ across the company each month to recognize Recharge employees who exemplify our values.
While these values continue to be reflected in our culture, a lot has changed over the last 10 years. In addition to major changes across the tech and ecommerce landscapes, Recharge has grown and evolved. We’ve expanded beyond subscriptions—though they’re still at our core—and have evolved how we show up for our merchants and our team to meet different moments.
Following deep reflection and thoughtful assessment by our executive leadership team, it became clear that our values needed to evolve to align with our current way of operating.
We started by observing the behaviors of the people who are most successful at the company; We believe values shouldn’t just be words on a page (or signs on a wall), but a true reflection of the culture. Finalizing our new set of company values took five drafts, four rounds of focus groups, three months and two creative briefs.
Today, we’re excited to share our new values:
- Accountability: I’m on the hook. We embrace responsibility for the success of Recharge and those around us.
- Collaboration: I’m calling now. We prioritize live collaboration to make progress and solve problems.
- Iteration: I drive change. We make smart decisions and pivots to drive continuous improvement for ourselves and the company.
- Details: I know my shit. We dive into the details to understand what, why, and how. A solid foundation of knowledge is essential.
As we continue to ride the rollercoaster of tech and ecommerce in 2024, we believe that these values will be critical elements in helping us achieve success for our merchants and team members, no matter what comes next.
