Earth Day is on April 22, and to celebrate, we wanted to showcase seven Recharge merchants that have made sustainable practices a key part of their mission.
In our quest to be thoughtful consumers of high-quality products, it can sometimes be overwhelming to try to quantify the “sustainability” of different companies when so many factors are at play: from the type of product, to manufacturing and shipping constraints, to company scale and emissions. We hope that this guide can offer some ideas of Recharge-powered brands that are working to make good products while also caring for the Earth.
From plant-based protein bars to skin care from the sea, shopping with these brands can help you build a routine that helps you, and the planet, thrive.
Bite
Bite is changing the way you take care of your teeth. The brand sells Toothpaste Bits, which are dry tablets that are used in place of traditional toothpaste. The Bits are made without harsh chemicals or plastics, are stored in a reusable glass jar, and are perfectly proportioned – making them zero-waste and easy to use.
Bite is a Certified B Corp and also sells a variety of other oral and body care products, which means there is a lot to smile about! In honor of Earth Month, select subscription sets are 40% off* with code PLASTICFREE until 4/22.
Ecoriginals
Ecoriginals is the world’s first and only plastic-neutral diaper and wipe company. Ecoriginals creates diapers that are soft and comfy for your little one—and a whopping 40% (!!!) more absorbent thanks to their Plantcell Technology™.
By designing out waste and pollution at every stage of the product process, Ecoriginals has managed to make diapers that are more than 90% biodegradable and wipes that are 100% home compostable. For more information on Ecoriginals and how they are reducing their environmental impact, check out the FAQs page on their website.
Open Farm
Open Farm believes that a healthy diet and safe environment are crucial to the health and wellbeing of all animals, which is why they create nutritious pet food that also does some good for the environment. You can even trace every ingredient in your bag of dog or cat food back to its source.
The company has also pledged to reduce their carbon footprint by 42% by 2030. To make a more immediate impact, Open Farm seeks to offset its emissions via wind farm facilities and sustainable forestry projects.
ALOHA
ALOHA set out ten years ago to responsibly make healthy, plant-based protein products. Their protein bars, minis, drinks, and powders are crafted with organic and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Plus, when you choose to bundle and save or choose autoship with ALOHA, you can do more for the planet while saving money.
The employee-owned company is a Certified B Corp and Climate Neutral Certified. Among other philanthropic ventures, ALOHA partners with Kupu, Hawai’i’s leading youth-focused conservation nonprofit. Kupu empowers the next generation of environmental and cultural stewards via hands-on training in sustainability and conservation.
The Earthling Co.
The Earthling Co. offers plastic-free, low-waste hair care products formulated for all hair types. Their shampoo and conditioner bars are super concentrated, giving you up to 75 washes with a single bar! You can choose between multiple scents (or unscented), and The Earthling Co. even has a line of hair treatments and skin & body care products to build out your shower routine.
Blueland
Blueland was founded to make it easy to be eco by creating household cleaning products that are convenient, effective, and affordable—all while minimizing single-use plastics. Blueland products have helped eliminate over 1 billion single-use plastic bottles from oceans and landfills since 2019. Blueland uses eco-friendly ingredients and packaging, audits water and energy consumption, and provides carbon-neutral shipping.
Just a few of Blueland’s certifications are the B Corp Certification, the Climate Neutral Certification, and the EPA Safer Choice Certification. The brand’s cleaning tablets and powders are a waste-free way to refill their forever bottles, making cleaning a breeze. While you’re at it, check out their line of Earthy merch! We won’t even ask you to name four of her albums if we see you wearing it, we promise.
OSEA Malibu
OSEA Malibu creates seaweed-infused Skincare from the Sea® that is clean, vegan, and cruelty-free. The brand sources nutrient-rich seaweeds from around the world that offer a myriad of benefits.
OSEA’s environmental values are baked into the brand’s DNA; the OSEA name is inspired by nature’s elements: Ocean, Sun, Earth, and Atmosphere. OSEA’s commitment to sustainability manifests in a multitude of ways: The company is Ocean Positive Verified and Climate Neutral Certified, has made strides toward minimizing use of virgin plastic and paper, and established an L.A. recycling program for skincare packaging. OSEA also gives you the option to subscribe, making it easy to bring the sea (or at least the power of the sea’s vegetation) right to your door.
Small change creates big change
A lot can go into our decision to purchase, and sustainability is an element that can make a product or brand stand apart among other options. By making small, more eco-conscious choices in our daily lives, we have the power to better care for ourselves, and the planet.
