BODi migrates 800,000+ subscriptions to Recharge as part of landmark Shopify replatform
BODi — the company behind P90X, 21 Day Fix, and one of the most recognized fitness catalogs in the world — built its business on subscriber loyalty. When the brand retired its multi-level marketing model and pivoted to direct-to-consumer in 2022, the infrastructure underneath that loyalty needed to change too.
Subscriptions aren’t just a feature for BODi, they’re the business, accounting for more than 85% of revenue. When BODi chose Shopify as its new commerce foundation, selecting the right subscription partner was a non-negotiable. They chose Recharge. In under eight months, the combined teams migrated over 800,000 active subscriptions across three regional storefronts, including accounts stretching back more than 15 years, at a 99.9% success rate.
Challenge
BODi’s legacy platform was built for a different time. Deeply customized and fully headless, it had served the multi-level marketing model well. But by the time BODi completed its DTC pivot, the stack had become a drain. Many engineering team members were tied up in maintenance, leaving little capacity for new innovations to the digital streaming platform and consumer app that the business needed to continue their growth.
Subscriptions added complexity that few platforms are built to handle. BODi’s customers often hold both digital fitness memberships and physical nutritional product subscriptions simultaneously — two distinct lifecycles, different cancellation states, and incompatible customer portal experiences crammed into a single account view. Legacy pricing and product setup forced the team to create many variations of skus, creating additional overhead for the teams to manage. And when it came time to replatform, all of it needed to move — cleanly, completely, and without disrupting the subscriber experience.
Our engineers were focused on maintenance, and any new features had to be hand built by our team. Our system was built for past needs, but we needed a system that would support our new model with less heavy lifting.”

Solution
BODi’s evaluation came down to one principle: they wanted to be wholly inside the Shopify ecosystem, not bridging two separate worlds. When evaluating subscription platforms, BODi selected Recharge for its deep alignment with Shopify and a partnership built for the long term. What stood out beyond the platform performance and enterprise logos was Recharge’s commitment to developing the roadmap alongside BODi, particularly around digital subscriptions, where the teams saw an opportunity to grow together.
Recharge offered a largely ready to go product, but also expressed a willingness to build with us to meet our needs. I could tell very quickly that the cultures were a great match.”

Execution
The subscription migration ran in parallel with BODi’s broader Shopify build spanning three storefronts, three regional payment environments, and a subscriber base with multiple product types and over 15 years of history. Recharge led the subscriber migration across all regions.
Using a pre-load and differential migration strategy aligned with Shopify’s import sequencing, Recharge drastically reduced migration timing around launch while maintaining data accuracy at scale. Recharge’s migration tooling handled the mapping and validation of legacy pricing, grandfathered shipping arrangements, and custom discount structures — preserving the arrangements long-tenured subscribers had come to rely on.
In addition to the migration, Recharge worked with BODi to ensure their subscribers felt an immediate impact in their new experience. In order to better support their unique dual-product subscription model, BODi built a custom Affinity portal with a dedicated view that presents digital and physical subscriptions separately.
Results
The migration completed at 99.9% success rate, and zero escalations across 800,000+ subscribers. Subscribers experienced no disruption. Orders resumed without incident.
The operational impact showed up quickly in unexpected places. Orders process faster overnight on Recharge and Shopify than they did on the legacy stack, giving BODi’s warehouse team earlier visibility into orders and a head start on fulfillment each morning. Engineering resources freed by the replatform have already been redirected to growth projects.
With the foundation in place, BODi and Recharge are focused on what the platform now makes possible: expanded win back programs, improved dunning flows, and cross-sell capabilities between digital memberships and nutritional products that were too complex to pursue on the previous stack.
We’ve spent years accepting the features we had and investing heavily when we needed new ones. Now we’re on a platform that’s constantly improving, with a subscription partner that’s building with us. The pace at which we can innovate from here is a completely different story.”

Conclusion
BODi needed a partner aligned with Shopify’s pace of innovation, capable of handling a complex dual-product subscription model, and proven at enterprise migration scale. Recharge delivered on all three.
The clearest sign of success is where BODi’s engineers are spending their time now — no longer maintaining a custom commerce stack, but investing their time where it can produce the most value across all of their customer-facing platforms.
